Commercial Pool Heating Designed Around Your Requirements
There is no standard commercial pool heating system that is right for every facility.
A swimming school operating throughout winter has very different requirements from a hotel seeking comfortable pool temperatures during the warmer months. Pool size, target temperature, operating season, wind exposure, shade, roof space, filtration equipment and existing heating all affect the final design.
Lex Pools assesses these factors before calculating the heating capacity, number of units, plumbing configuration and supporting infrastructure required.
Six-Month Season
Comfortable pool use during the warmer months, typically October to March.
Extended Eight-Month Season
An extended swimming season, typically September through April.
Year-Round Heating
Purpose-designed heating for dependable operation through winter.
Commercial Pool Heating Solutions
Choose the technology that best matches your temperature goals, swimming season, site conditions and available infrastructure.

Commercial Inverter Pool Heat Pumps
High-capacity inverter heat pumps are ideal where predictable temperatures, an extended season or year-round operation are required. Lex Pools predominantly works with 65kW and 70kW commercial units, combining multiple heat pumps where necessary.
Inverter technology adjusts output according to demand, helping maintain stable water temperatures while managing electrical demand efficiently.

Heliocol Commercial Solar Pool Heating
Commercial solar pool heating can be an efficient solution where suitable roof space and solar exposure are available, particularly for six- or eight-month swimming seasons.
Lex Pools is an authorised Heliocol installer. Its modular collectors can be sized around the roof area and pool requirements, and Heliocol is NSF-50 listed for public and commercial pool applications.

High-capacity equipment, professionally sized and configured for the heating load of your facility.
ITS 65kW Commercial Inverter Heat Pump
The ITS 65VPi3 is one of Lex Pools’ preferred units for large commercial pool installations. It provides up to 65kW heating capacity in boost conditions, while inverter technology adjusts operation according to demand.
- Commercial inverter technology and soft-start operation
- Colour LCD touchscreen controller with Wi-Fi capability
- Titanium heat exchanger and R32 refrigerant
- Powder-coated casing and 63mm water connections
- Broad operating range for demanding seasonal requirements
- Multiple units can be combined for larger pools
70kW Commercial Inverter Heat Pump
The IVST150/3G STD provides a high-capacity option for commercial installations where multiple units may need to operate together to heat a large pool reliably.
- 70kW rated heating capacity with inverter operation
- Titanium heat exchanger and R32 refrigerant
- Colour controller with Wi-Fi capability
- Galvanised, powder-coated casing with lockable access
- Dual top-mounted fans and 63mm water connections
- Designed for a three-phase electrical supply
Multiple Heat Pumps for Large Commercial Pools
Individual isolation valves allow one unit to be inspected or serviced while the remaining system continues operating.
One heat pump is often not enough for a large swimming pool.
Lex Pools calculates the total heating load and designs a modular installation using the correct number of commercial units.
Existing installations have incorporated four, six, eight and even ten heat pumps, depending on pool size, target temperature and required swimming season.
Upgrade Your Existing Pool Heating System
You may not need to replace the entire installation when your requirements change. Lex Pools can assess existing heat pumps, solar heating, solar blankets and associated equipment to determine what can remain in service.
Additional commercial heat pumps can often be integrated alongside newer or older equipment to increase capacity and improve resilience.
An Upgrade Can Help You
- Extend the swimming season
- Operate reliably through winter
- Achieve a higher water temperature
- Add capacity as pool usage changes
- Replace ageing units progressively
- Build redundancy into the system
How We Design Your Commercial Pool Heating System
A structured process ensures that the recommended solution is based on your pool, your site and your operating requirements.
1. Initial Consultation
We confirm pool size, indoor or outdoor location, target temperature, swimming season and preferred heating technology.
2. Commercial Site Assessment
For Gauteng projects, we inspect the pool, sun, shade, wind, pump room, filtration, existing heating and available equipment space.
3. Calculations & System Design
We calculate heating capacity and determine unit quantities, placement, pipework, electrical needs and supporting infrastructure.
4. Proposal & Installation
Lex Pools provides a detailed proposal and can deliver a turnkey installation or coordinate with your preferred contractors.
5. Commissioning & Handover
The complete system is tested and commissioned, followed by on-site handover and training for the facility team.
Commercial Pool Heating Installation Done Properly
Correct installation is just as important as selecting the right equipment.
Poor hydraulic design can restrict flow, reduce heating performance and place unnecessary stress on expensive commercial heat pumps.
- Commercial heat pumps require three-phase electrical power.
- Electrical requirements are calculated for the selected units.
- Equipment is positioned close to the pump room where practical.
- A minimum of Class 9/12 pipe is used for commercial heated-water installations.
- Commercial-grade fittings withstand heat and pressure.
- Pipe routes minimise unnecessary bends and flow restrictions.
- Individual valves allow each heat pump to be isolated.
- Concrete slabs and secure fencing can be included where required.
Subject to stock, site readiness and project scope, even a large installation can typically be completed in approximately two weeks.
Turnkey Project Management
Lex Pools can manage the complete project or work with your organisation’s approved electricians, builders and other contractors.
Long-Term Support Matters
A commercial heating system is a long-term investment. Access to technical expertise, warranty assistance and replacement parts can determine how reliably it performs over its working life.

Commercial Pool Heating FAQs
What is the best heating system for a commercial swimming pool?
The best system depends on pool size, target temperature, swimming season, site conditions and available infrastructure. Inverter heat pumps are generally preferred for predictable temperatures or year-round heating. Solar heating can be effective for six- or eight-month seasons where suitable roof space is available.
How many heat pumps does a commercial pool need?
There is no fixed number. Large commercial pools normally require multiple heat pumps. Lex Pools calculates the heating requirement according to pool size, target temperature, swimming season and site conditions before specifying the quantity and configuration.
Can additional heat pumps be added to an existing system?
Yes. Lex Pools can assess existing equipment and, where appropriate, add heat pumps to increase capacity, extend the swimming season, improve redundancy or achieve higher water temperatures.
Do commercial pool heat pumps require three-phase electricity?
The commercial heat pumps used by Lex Pools require three-phase electrical power. The final electrical requirement depends on the number and type of units included in the installation.
Can solar heating be used for a commercial swimming pool?
Yes. Commercial solar pool heating can be highly effective when sufficient suitable roof space and solar exposure are available. It is particularly suited to facilities wanting to extend their season without requiring dependable winter heating.
Can Lex Pools manage the entire commercial installation?
Yes. Lex Pools can provide a turnkey commercial pool heating solution and coordinate additional contractors where required. We can also work with a client’s approved electricians, builders and contractors.
How long does a commercial installation take?
Timing depends on project size, site preparation and equipment availability. Where equipment and associated materials are available, a large installation can typically be completed in approximately two weeks, with smaller installations potentially completed sooner.
Does Lex Pools provide servicing and repairs after installation?
Yes. Lex Pools provides ongoing servicing, repairs, fault finding, replacement parts and technical support for commercial pool heating installations.
